Artist Statement
I make figurative sculptures in cast metal, which deviate from the expected through missing elements or incorporation of recognizable, inhuman forms. I make my work to heal and process emotional wounds, loss and grief, rage and strength. I incorporate contrasting materials and textures to show the different sides of human nature. Soft and smooth against rough and raw. Using metal and fire to create feminine form challenges traditional norms of the material, exploring of themes of feminism and empowerment. The casting process itself carries the artist through the transition of one material to another through a series of molds. Each mold opens to a new and changed object which is then perfected in the final piece. This process relates to the ever growing and changing that exist within ourselves. The final work invites the viewer to explore their own response - providing permission to be vulnerable within their own healing journey.
